Zoooooom

I just clocked 2.6Mbps on my new BSNL 3G connection. Slow speeds of EVDO was beginning to get on to my nerves, when dilbert informed me of his new 3G acquisition and speeds he reached. I put some thought, checked my finances and some other permutations before i finally got it. Now i zooom through websites. wow!
As i write this 'We will rock u' is being sung in the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth games and i feel elated. We did rock them. After being taunt with comments, criticisms and adverse reports before the games, the games got organized perfectly well and garnered enough attention all over the world.
It was simply great to hear pro-India chants that clearly inspired our athletes to their best, which is evident in the tally of medals-our best in all time. I was amused by a report where England women's archery team complained losing the gold to India due to the excessive cheering by the Indian supporters. Well, English females welcome to India. We will cheer for anyone wearing Indian colors, be it cricket, boxing or archery. That's what is called the Home Advantage and our athletes deserve it, don't they?

Musings...

Few days back, i was attending a farewell, given to one of my colleagues who opted for voluntary retirement. He along with bosses formed the dais. I sat next to RMK at the end of the row. The meeting started with a prayer and then the bosses one by one expressed concerns on his decision and wished him a great time ahead. Then, his colleagues did the same. All the while, RMK would frequently sit upright and block my view of the beautiful female sitting next to dais, who was the only source of boredom alleviation and i would pull him back to his normal position. Then the man of the day spoke. I came to know that he had amassed many educational qualifications and the institution had neither given him promotion nor made use of his varied skills. He felt frustrated and left at the age of 47, to do something he had interest in.

What got me thinking was, will I take a step akin to his, if i was in a similar position. Would i have the guts to move out?. He had the guts to, to go from a position of comfort into a field where there would be more struggle as he begins from the scratch, though he has some experienced hands to guide him on. I realize the need to develop some skills, gain more education and contacts, outside my line of work, to give myself an option if the situation ever demanded.

Vidya would echo similar thoughts of doing something after retirement, something we have interest in.
Anyway, I am sure that i need to find something to keep my options open, something to fall back on.

I Am listening to 'Tum Ho Toh' from the movie Rock On.
You can listen to it here.

That's all.

Ramblings of the sleep-deprived-due-to- mosquito mind

It's quite hot here, the meancing mosquitoes are on the prowl and these two together form a very lethal combination. To beat the heat i just had a bath(at 300am) and sprayed whatever was left in the HIT can and made a gas chamber of my room. Now I am sitting in verandah for the HIT to sink in, and obtain maximum casuality.
Tiger woods has been hogging the news for sometime now. He is under going treatment in what is apparently some sort of sex rehab centre for his uber active libido. Now all my life, i have heard of hollywoodies going in for drug rehab, alcohol rehab, smoking rehab, at times for community service. This is the first time i hear something in the lines of sex rehab. I happened to read his confession and i felt this guy does'nt deserve forgiveness or sympathy of any kind.

Another guy of whom i see or read about almost everyday on some page of the paper is the Indian Minister of State for Environment and Forests- Mr.JairamMaheshRamesh. One day he is at a summit where they talk about saving glaciers, cutting carbon somethings, another day he talks over halting climate change or he is smarting over beta brinjals or commenting on some dam issues in kerala or talking on afforestation or talking about mining etc etc. The Media simply seem to be loving him.
(Not that i have some problem with him or TIGER , its just that i need to while some time away while the HIT sinks in.)

And one thing that really made me proud this week was Tendulkar's 200. Work had me consumed the entire day and I realised at midnight via a sms asking me to forward it to every Indian on the planet

Sleep is getting my eyes to close involuntarily. Now when i get up and open my room I expect my room to be free from mosquitoes, else i curse the HIT guys. Need to get up at 6 in the morning.(Its 4am already).

Chao!

Yippeeeeee..& looose petrolllll

'Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee'
Well..no other word could probably describe my elation in getting thru with the net connection i have been struggling with for sometime now. It's the first run for my new BSNL
EVDO and till now general browsing speeds have been pretty satisfactory, though i have'nt put it thru any kind of speed tests. For the time being, I am happy the way this thing is functioning.

And today on the way back home with RMK, he suddenly breaks into this song from
Rang De Basanti "lose petrooool, lose petroool, one more time, lose, lose". I laugh and retrot "what? petrol?..its control dude..not petrol". He gives me a dumb look and says "really! is it control?..i always thought it was petrol..made more sense anyway". I laugh all the way home and realise the headache that i was carrying had disappeared. Humor helps you see.

Time to hit the couch and to curse the mosquitoes.

Chao!!!
